Lesser Mealworm larva (these are small 1/2- 3/4 inch)
The Lesser Mealworm or Buffalo Beetle larva (Alphitobius diaperinus) can be used as a cleaner crew or feeder for small reptiles. The larva are 5-10mm in length when fully grown.
Unlike regular mealworms they have a soft outer shell that is easily digestible. These lesser mealworms are more like miniature Superworms, and make great feeders for baby bearded dragons, and small reptiles. I feed these to my baby bearded dragons during the first 3 weeks of life. These worms stay alive at room temperature. Keep these worms in Wheat Bran and feed them fruits and vegetables for a water source. When added to a Dubia Roach colony they help recycle the Dubia frass and uneaten fruit to help keep the colony clean and healthy. I recommend adding Buffalo Beetles and Dermestid Beetles to all Dubia colonies.
